Increment and Definition of Done

๐ŸŽฌ Video Lesson ยท 8 min

An Increment is the sum of all completed Product Backlog items that meet the Definition of Done.

Key Properties: Must be usable at the end of every Sprint. The team doesn’t have to release it โ€” but it must be releasable.

Definition of Done (DoD)

A formal description of the state the Increment must reach to be ‘Done.’ Created by the Scrum Team. Applies uniformly to EVERY Increment. Evolved in the Sprint Retrospective โ€” never changed mid-Sprint.

DoD vs. Acceptance Criteria: DoD applies to all PBIs; Acceptance Criteria is specific to one PBI.
